Weekly Rankings MegaThread

Post by Guest1 »

I don’t want to spam your forum up with a bunch of redundant threads. So here’s how it works: I propose that each week, a different user chooses a band, artist, genre, album, TV series, whatever to do a ranking of. Each week we rotate to a new person so it’s not my obnoxious ass rambling all the time. If you want to be a part just let me know and we can work it out from there. If you have any suggestions on how to make this better, or if a thread like this already exists please let me know.

This week I’m going to do the Jam albums:

1.Setting Sons
2.Sound Affects
3.The Gift
4.All Mod Cons
5.In the City
6.TITMW

I think the Gift is a super underrated record. Some northern soul influence, yes. But not nearly as atrocious as the Style Council. Ghosts is also the best song Weller ever wrote IMO. I’ve always thought that all mod cons suffers from weird pacing, most of the more uptempo numbers are placed towards the back end of the album. I also don’t understand why it’s considered their premier record. It’s fantastic don’t get me wrong but I feel like TG, SS, and SA all have more classics on them. Setting sons and Sound affects are basically flawless in my eyes.In the city and modern world are great but obviously lack the refinement of the later records. Anyways. That’s just my opinion. What’s your personal rankings?

I guess that's basically the Friday Top 5 thread concept.

Here's my ranking of the Jam albums...

Setting Sons
All Mod Cons
The Gift
This Is the Modern World
Sound Affects
In the City

A couple of low moments on The Gift but the highs elevate it. Always thought Modern World is an underrated album and much better than the debut. Sound Affects has a good rep but a few weak tracks for me and I don't like the production.

Ps. I don't think your "redundant threads have spammed up the forum." You and a few other new members have been a breath of fresh air recently.

No problem. I agree with Heston. Nice to see some new people getting involved.

Setting Sons (Would be perfect if the proper version of Smithers-Jones was on there)
All Mod Cons
Sound Affects
The Gift
This Is The Modern World
In The City

Sound Affects has really grown on me over the last few years, there's some great numbers there, Music For The Last Couple especially, that intro is just annoyingly unnecessary. I still contend Set The House Ablaze would be fantastic without the irritating whistling as well.

Yep. I'm all in favour of everyone (except Flex) posting as much as they like, particularly newer people.

I love the string arrangement for Smithers Jones. That’s the definitive version in my opinion. It also adds some much needed sonic variety to that record.

You only like new members because they lower your chances of being the member with the worst takes.

In The City
Sound Affects
This Is The Modern World
Setting Sons
The Gift
