This used to be a Clash board, you know.
The Clash are a part of this poll... ;)
Yes but not "The Clash". ;)

American Pie by a country mile.

What kind of evil poll-freakery wouldn't have Bowie as the answer? It's now over 50%.

I've just had to have another listen to remind myself how ordinary it is. It seems he has some kind of sacred cow status.

Here's your canary in the coal mine: I rarely side with the Bowie people. I have my own blindspot where what causes jaws to drop and tongues to wag for y'all, I think it's just okay. So if I'm actually being persuaded, maybe that should be a sign to you that there's real value there.

It's a good song, but then again, I don't rate many Bowie songs above "good." Bowie in general is sacred cow around here.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Actually, I take it back, this song is great. The sax and the backing vocals are great. I'm okay with this winning, though it probably shouldn't be this overwhelming, but whatever.

There's a fair few I love but they are mostly from Hunky Dory and Ziggy. I think Heroes is one of the most overrated songs ever.

I first heard it through the tepid Wallflowers version on the Godzilla soundtrack in 98. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard Bowie do that octave jump and just belt it, but I like it.
