MC5 Brother's and Sister's!

Post by Marky Dread »

Righting rock 'n' roll wrongs....

Always loved this album but hated Landau's production/mix.

So I've remixed it.

Thank you very much for doing this. All the MC5 stuff is crying out for attention and recognition from a record company and particularly a re-mix of this.

Oh holy shit, Marky! The number of times I’ve thought about how great this album is in spite of the weedy-assed mix... cannot wait!

If I had a nickel for everyone who told me why they didn't "get" the MC5, and tell me that Back In The USA was their gateway drug... I'd be (living in two mansions/buying a castle in Spain/retired and sitting on the beachfill in the cliche/metaphor of choice here)...

And I tell 'em, "Of course, there are sonic issues -- it was 'produced' by a non-musician who didn't know anything about the technical side of getting those sounds down! What d'ya expect?"

That being said, I've always been intrigued with how the Brits latched onto it so fiercely, especially in '77, it seems. One example that comes to mind is the Damned's version of "Looking At You," though that came a bit later, but I think it was one that helped reignite interest in the MC5.

I too have never been thrilled with how that album sounds, either --though I gotta say, when I saw Kramer and company on that MC50 tour back in 2018, they drew on that album for much of the set, and those songs really came alive in a way that their original recorded incarnations barely suggest. Anyway, I think I'll have to check this out!

Hello Marky,

I am by no means an audiophile but this sounds great! I don't know the ins and outs, etc. but this sounds cleaner. Thanks again for your time and effort!

I'm just catching up with this one Marky - and it sounds fantastic - thanks! Any excuse to revisit the MC5 is fine by me.
Pardon my ignorance, but where is the alternate version of Shakin' Street from? And what's the story of the 'original' and 'rare' mixes (tracks 12, 13, 14)?
