Doc, have you heard Violet Indiana?
Yup. Hit and miss for me. There are a few songs I really liked, but it mostly fell flat for me. I've much preferred the instrumental stuff that RG has since concentrated on.
I like about half the songs on their first album, but the rest suffer from the same problem as the singer's previous band, Mono. All the choruses are much too grand, and are kind of the equivalent of that scene in every Danny Boyle film that takes you right out of the mood of the thing.
Yeah, that's a good critique. This is the song that sticks out most for me, but it fits well with what you say.
Exactly the track I was thinking about, actually.

I rather pity her in that she was doomed to be compared (unfavourably) to EF.

Oh how Heston screamed that day, like the Beatles on Sullivan.

Wait, wait. I missed this earlier. The UK's first music Hall of Fame, I assume covering pop, rock, R&B, etc., and they have that deep well of legendary artists to honor and decided that among all of those greats that Robbie Williams was worthy of the inaugural class??? I know they love him and Oasis and hate Led Zeppelin, but holy shit.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Oh, it was a public poll for someone to honor from each decade and he was chosen for the 90s and it wasn't exclusive to the UK. Nominees for the 90s were: Blur, Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, Nirvana, Oasis, The Prodigy, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Robbie Williams, Spice Girls

You're certainly confirming my position that the past is something we need to escape from!

Hello,

I'll take the half-full side of things. Jenny's post demonstrates the evolution of music and musical tastes. Are many current artists referring to Long Road Out Of Eden as an influence -"Yeah, we were going for a Long Road Out Of Eden vibe/sound"?

Jenny, if you have made progress toward killing the career of the Eagles, then consider your time well-spent and appreciated.

I'm more jaundiced. The Eagles seemed dead and buried and yet they came back. Ancient evils are never fully gone. There will be some band, somewhere, that will take inspiration from the Eagles and that album, and they will seek to drag down music with them.
