Some think he survived, moved to England, and changed his name to William Shears Campbell.

6 years ago today we lost David Bowie.

I don't usually get upset at celeb and rich people deaths, I mean not really genuinely upset, if I liked them it's usually a good pretext to remember and honor their works. But Bowie gutted me in a personal way that really only Joe has done so far. I imagine only Dylan's passing will affect me similarly.

Agree with this. I think it was the unexpected nature of it that was shocking, I mean to those of us unaware of his health issues and had no inkling. Conversely, with Leonard Cohen, it was a sadness tinged with a great sense of thanks and privilege for the way he'd eked out every last drop of creativity to the very end. It was around this time 4 years ago we lost Dolores O'Riordan and that's one that hit hard, far too young and too much untapped potential.Flex wrote: ↑10 Jan 2022, 11:35amI don't usually get upset at celeb and rich people deaths, I mean not really genuinely upset, if I liked them it's usually a good pretext to remember and honor their works. I feel exactly the same (sans the Dylan part, though I will certainly be sad). The only other celeb death that was even close to being such a gut punch was Yauch's.Flex wrote: ↑10 Jan 2022, 11:35amI don't usually get upset at celeb and rich people deaths, I mean not really genuinely upset, if I liked them it's usually a good pretext to remember and honor their works. I didn't find out until the next day, Maggie told me about it as I was stepping out of the shower and I was dumbstruck. She felt really bad for being the messenger because she thought I already knew (I was listening to Station to Station the previous night). I tried to listen to Young Americans at work and immediately started crying the minute his voice came in, couldn't listen to him until the weekend when VH1 was doing a video marathon. Xite channel did the same thing last weekend and I started tearing up again. Like you, only Strummer and Bowie have affected me that way.Flex wrote: ↑10 Jan 2022, 11:35amI don't usually get upset at celeb and rich people deaths, I mean not really genuinely upset, if I liked them it's usually a good pretext to remember and honor their works.
