The Darts: really fun, solid garage rock - upbeat energy, good guitar sound - what's not to like?

Bite Me Bambi: I've heard a few tracks from these people - good, solid ska-ish pop - perhaps it could be a bit more ska and a little less pop

El-P: interesting stuff - I like prominent percussion - I like the New York tinge in the vocals - really good.

Spectres: yeah, definitely post-punk early Killing Joke feel - good restrained energy (if that makes sense) - good stuff especially for someone who was around for this sound earlier

TV Smith's Cheap: good straight forward rock

Wayne Kramer: solid track - I like his vocals most of the time and that holds true here - "Do I need a shower or do I need a shave?" is fun to hear - the sincerity/simplicity is good

Love the tone of the song and the music. Lyrics are good but the vox are a turn off for me which is a shame. Maybe I just need to get used to them.

- TVS is great, still has that fire in him. He seldom if ever disappoints. Love it.

Wayne Kramer, “Talkin’ Outta School.”
Im a huge fan of Brother Wayne. This is from Adult World which if Im not mistaken was the last of his rock records. He did a jazz record since and collaborates with a lot of other musicians and is now doing a reconstituted MC5. Anyway love this song as I do much of his work.

It may be a record for me - I'm somewhat familar with 2 of the 3 (but really only superficially.) I've wanted and tried to like MC5 and TV but my happiness that they exist and make music is greater than my desire to actually listen.

Both TV Smith and Wayne Kramer are solid enough without really grabbing me and, TBH, I'm a little put off by a man over 50 singing about school (even if it's just a turn of phrase) so I enjoyed it more when I pretended it was a foreign language.

Spectres, on the other hand, are brand new to me and I liked it a lot. Yeah, they display their influences but it doesn't go into all-out-tribute-act like, say, The Enemy. I love the way the bass and guitar kind of compete for my attention and then I catch a bit of lyric and want to concentrate on that as well. Needs multiple listens.

Glen Matlock was in a band called The Spectres after the Rich Kids finished. And a pre Status Quo were called The Spectres in the 60s.

Managing to sneak in my reviews of Marky's three before the next set go up.

Spectres - Cold War: Neither here nor there, but I love the stark artwork displayed on the video. Your KJ/JD comp seems spot on to my ears. The vocals don't quite endear themselves to me as much as either of those bands, but that's not really a fair standard. This is a nice stomping number. The nice thing about tunes like this is you can actually make out most of the words, and I like them. Good, nervy paranoia. 7.5/10

TV Smith's Cheap - Luxury in Exile: Nice track. I'm reasonably familiar with the Adverts limited catalog but I admit TV Smith's solo work is something I'm only familiar with insofar as he pops on a compilation here and there. This is nice, straightforward punky rock. He does have a distinctive voice. I'm looking at his catalog now and he's had a pretty prolific solo career. Add him to the pile of musicians I really should give more time to. 7/10

Wayne Kramer - Talkin' Outta School: I love Wayne and pretty much everything he's ever done, certainly this included. I last saw him on the MC50 tour, which fuckin' ruled (and so did he). A legend. 9/10
