In the least likely Matey theme and destined to be my least liked packet, I'll be doing a hardcore theme this time:

Soul Glo - Gold Chain Punk
These guys are getting a lot of attention. Thrashy and all over the place, but it works

Far - The System

I was going to put this on my "lost 90s" mix, but figured it kinda fits here. Forgotten post-hardcore band. I chose this one because it really highlights Jonah Matranga's vocals. Verses are melodic and the refrain is more abrasive with Matranga's vocals just going higher and higher. The last 30 seconds of the song is just a one chord riff with Matranga's voice getting more and more unhinged.

Horse the Band - Cutsman

An old facebook post of eumaas making fun of me reminded me of this track that I thought was brilliant in 2004. I guess this is metalcore, but their schtick is hardcore with lots of synths and Nintendo references. This shit is just all over the place - there's like 15 different sections and the band is almost falling apart throughout, but I love it. The build up to the part at 3:10 and the payoff is just nuts. I would be surprised if anyone finds value in this.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

They were on my short list for my packet of 3s. I like them, I see they signed to epitaph.

Far - The System
Definitely has a 90s mtv alt vibe going on here. The screamy part at the end was my favorite part.

Horse the Band - Cutsman
I would like this more without all the blips and beeps. Every time Im getting into it that video game noise comes in and spoils it like a date's dog or cat jumping on the bed while you're fucking. A mood killer.

Overall a nice surprise, not really what I was expecting from you.

Matey Goes Hardcore intrigues me, let's find out more!

Soul Glo - Gold Chain Punk: I like this, like a lot. It don't always go for this mid-tempo stuff but the vocals absolutely slay here. I gotta check out more from these guys. Love just the slight touches of melody to vary it. Great sound. 10/10

Far - The System: Mmmmm... I probably would have decried these guys during the actual Blessed Decade. too melodic, too slow, too soft. I'm definitely mellower about it now, it's a nice 2 minutes. The end is the best. Not what I really reach for but if I saw these guys open for, like, Refused or something I'd be happy. 6.5/10

Horse the Band - Cutsman: eumaas can be so mean  I'll depart from my comrade in 'core, revbob, here. I like this a lot, assuming there's a bit of tongue in cheek to the whole thing. Great propulsive speed, slows down at the right spots, love the vocals and the bleeps and bloops are funny as fuck. It's fun because it feels like 3-4 different songs spliced together. 8/10

Great fucking stuff, hoy. makes me wanna do some dew with ya.

I thought because the songs didn’t sound good that Doc would like them more. Because Swans.

Huh. I suppose it could be interpreted that way.

It is! And quite satisfying that you appreciate it!
