Hmmm, I actually think Charro! is a bit underrated

Re: Ranking the Discographies
It’s an amazing document about how Hollywood could work to neuter rock n roll. It’s easy to use it to mock Elvis, but I value it as sinister evidence.

Re: Ranking the Discographies
Probably. I just don't like bearded Elvis.
To be fair, I only remember the title song. And that one, for me, is trying a bit too hard. Just like Elvis in the movie.

Re: Ranking the Discographies
Bearded Elvis and Bearded Spock should get together for shenanigans, imho.
It's been a while since I saw it, but I remember liking Elvis' performance. Felt like he was actually trying which was sort of unusual for his movies by that point. I should watch it again soon and see if my impression still holds or if I think he's overdoing it.

If you can't enjoy Black Album, at least the big songs from it, I don't know what to tell you.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I have to listen to it again. That album came out when I was 14 and it hit my high school big. My friends and I played it a lot and I eventually got sick of it.

Re: Ranking the Discographies
The one thing you have to give that album is that the mix is amazing. "One" is my all time favorite Metallica song, but And Justice sounds like absolute garbage.WestwayKid wrote: ↑07 Jul 2022, 3:51pmI have to listen to it again. The mix is terrible. Bob Rock reached out to produce the Black Album because he thought the mixing on ...And Justice was so awful.matedog wrote: ↑07 Jul 2022, 4:06pmThe one thing you have to give that album is that the mix is amazing. Re: Ranking the Discographies
Has any originally cult band that achieved mainstream success been so wrecked by it? I'm struggling to think of a better example.
