Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

The Smiths (Rough Trade only - I'm not bothering with the compilations after that)
Strangeways Here We Come
The Queen is Dead
Meat is Murder
Hatful of Hollow
Louder than Bombs
The Smiths
The World Won't Listen
Rank
Absolutely nothing between the first three and on any given day a strong (or even weak) argument will sway me.
I have to put The Smiths fairly low because I think I prefer the radio session version of a couple of the songs and definitely the Troy Tate version of Pretty Girls Make Graves.
Rank is last because I don't think I would choose the live version over the studio version of any of the songs.

I left out Hatful and WWL because they're basically accounted for on LTB with a few minor differences so I never listen to them.

Okay, but where's the dividing line between those that are genuinely good and those that are … flawed in some minor way?Olaf wrote: ↑18 Jun 2022, 6:50amOkay, due to popular demand I give you the Elvis Hollywood movie soundtracks:

Hm. I guess that would be between Loving You and G.I Blues for me. But charmingly flawed, not cringingly flawed.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑18 Jun 2022, 7:02amOkay, but where's the dividing line between those that are genuinely good and those that are … flawed in some minor way?Olaf wrote: ↑18 Jun 2022, 6:50amOkay, due to popular demand I give you the Elvis Hollywood movie soundtracks:
