James - a band I always think should be better than they end up being. Some solid releases, but nothing truly great:

Laid
Pleased to Meet You
Seven
Millionaires
Gold Mother
Hey Ma
La Petite Mort
The Night Before
Wah Wah
Whiplash
The Morning After
Strip-Mine
Living in Extraordinary Times
Girl at the End of the World
Stutter
All the Colours of You

How about bands with great catalogs, except for 1 clunker.

Teenage Fanclub:

Bandwagonesque
Grand Prix
Songs from Northern Britain
Man-Made
Thirteen
Shadows
A Catholic Education
Here
Endless Arcade
Howdy!
Words of Wisdom and Hope
The King

The King is what it is: a slapdash collection of songs thrown together in a single day to use up their leftover Bandwagonesque studio time. It should have been relegated to the heap of the unreleased, but they put it out - therefore it's part of their discography.

The King is so bad I've never heard of it!

Definitely a singles band. The only album that I find interesting is Wah Wah.

I only have it as a rip made by a fellow fan. They originally released it for a day - then deleted it. This was done as they still owed Creation an additional album. It isn't good.

Exactly, though I keep buying their albums...

Downloading from SoulSeek! I notice you omitted Deep Fried Fanclub. Not essential, but it's okay.

(What's the Story) Morning Glory?
Definitely Maybe
Dig Out Your Soul
Don't Believe the Truth
Be Here Now
Standing on the Shoulder of Giants
Heathen Chemistry

A divisive band, but important to a 17 year old WWK in 1994. It seemed like everyone was listening to the soulless remnants of grunge and then there comes this band that understands the power of a good riff and sing-a-long chorus. Morning Glory and Definitely Maybe are their best, but their final two: Dig Out Your Soul and Don't Believe the Truth were good. It's the middle period that really sags. I saw them live on their Don't Believe the Truth tour and they were impressive. Way more impressive than when I saw them in 1994/95.

I like "Some Might Say" and "Morning Glory," but everything else I've heard is guano.

In honor of The Cure kicking off their 2022 tour by bringing the exiled Perry Bamonte back, here's another run through of my Cure rankings:

Disintegration
The Head on the Door
Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
Faith
Pornography
Wish
Three Imaginary Boys
Seventeen Seconds
Bloodflowers
The Cure
The Top
Wild Mood Swings
4:13 Dream

When I was a mopey young person—instead of the whacky, permasmiling sea otter I am now—I would have emphasized the stuff from Disintegration down. But I much prefer the poppier side of the Cure now. I'd like to put Wish at #1 just for "Friday" alone, but as an album it's not as good as the two above it.

The Head on the Door
Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
Wish
Three Imaginary Boys
Disintegration
Pornography
Faith
Seventeen Seconds
The Top
… tho I’ve heard the others at least once, I formed no impression beyond that I didn’t care.

I don't have a deep knowledge of the cure catalog - not like Hoy does, anyways - but Head on the Door has always been my hands-down favorite album of theirs.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

Cool how it looks back at you, huh? The interactivity makes it all worthwhile.
