Wow, that's cleared up some long standing mysteries for me, thanks md. Very curious song, i don't dislike it and, lyrically, there are some good lines and typical clever Joe word play in it, but overall it just fails to come together for me. Not to mention practically impenetrable, even by Joe's lofty standards!

I think that's maybe the problem. Joe's oblique style works well most of the time, but a subject like that requires more clarity or you risk coming across clumsy or possibly even worse.

Record companies! I mean I expect CBS/SONY were against using songs with "War" in the title due to current events. They must've released hundreds of songs with "War" in the title previously.
