From what I see there's still a little hope

Wow. This one is indeed very sad.

Hello,
Okay, it's a cover but this is my go-to version of Pressure Drop. I have played this often in class before I start lecture. Is Terry on it?

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

Such very sad news, much too young if you will forgive the wording.
I love this song from the comeback album. Absolutely beautiful.

The world's going to be a far shittier place when all these people are gone. Met Terry nice when he was DJing after a Maytals gig in Leeds years ago, nice fella. Never saw the specials play however and I should have done.

I was lucky enough to see the Specials (and the Pogues at the same festival) in 2012 for the first and probably last time as a younger chap in Australia. Exceptional experience I feel even luckier for now.

Agree, it's really good. I remember being really impressed by the album when it came out but haven't listened to it since. Gonna give it a relisten today. Rip Terry.
Re: RIP Terry Hall
No he is not. This is from a half-hearted reunion album with Lynval, Neville and I think Roddy. The conventional wisdom is that this album (Today's Specials) really sucks.
Re: RIP Terry Hall
Yeah the album is not very good but I've always liked this version of Pressure Drop, too. The highlight of the album for sure.

When my kids were younger, they watched a lot of the Wiggles, and this was always one of their favorites. It led, of course, to me playing the Specials for them and while they did not become fans (yet), I'm glad it's something they've been exposed to.

Lol, nice! I will have to show this to my son. He has just started watching the Wiggles and Monkey Man was actually the first song he ever sang when he was like 11 months old. The aye aye aye part anyway.WestwayKid wrote: ↑20 Dec 2022, 12:48pm

Re: RIP Terry Hall
This performance has always held a very special place in my heart, although I don't actually necessarily think it's very reflective of The Specials signature sound:
Really every song off their debut is a classic, I remember buying it on CD around the Christmas season (maybe someone had given me a gift certificate to the local record store). I bought that and a split CD of the early Sex Pistols demos and New York Dolls tracks. All that music was thrilling and fresh and new. I was already in love with 3rd wave ska and knew the specials by reputation but hearing that debut album was life altering. Me and a friend (the one who I saw the specials with a few years ago, actually) would just ride around on the local bus looking out the window at the snow and listening to the specials on my discman each with an earbud in our ear. It's an album that always makes me think of winter. But the parts of winter that mean dirty snow and grey skies and coldness. Which is a weirdly bleak association for ska music, but the specials always trafficked in confronting dirty realities.
This is another great song off that first record:
