New York Dolls is great and really goes with the image.msza2 wrote: ↑10 Jan 2023, 8:45amI'd add a lot of "New ____ " names to the list. New Order, New Edition, New Pornographers. Probably a few more. It just feels lazy.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑10 Jan 2023, 8:10amNew Radicals. Apart from producing one of the worst songs of that terrible decade, that band name is inane. It sounds like a focus group compromise.
The New Originals obviously get a pass. And I'll give New Kids on the Block a pass too as that worked for what it was.

Hooverphonic is a pretty lame effort.

Eloctrolux Deluxe would be great for an 80s band.

As for the Wikipedia explanation, I’m pretty much the American equivalent. Newyorkus buffaloensis, the American snow monkey.

I just thought of one. Bad Lieutenant is a terrible name. I liked the band/album (even if it really was just New Order without Hooky or Gillian). The name seems like they just picked something on a whim, maybe because the movie Bad Lieutenant was on in the studio or something.

Similar to the Manic Street Preachers, I believe. JDB was busking and an old man passing by called him a "manic street preacher" or something like that.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Jan 2023, 7:19amWhen they first started the story about their mame was they were on a night out and it was freezing and an old guy saw them wearing just t shirts and said "you must be freezing, you look like arctic monkeys.Kimmelweck wrote: ↑10 Jan 2023, 4:08amAs band names go, I don’t mind this one so much. I think it's a story that's been disputed but whatever the real story is Manic Street Preachers is a much better name than Betty Blue.WestwayKid wrote: ↑16 Jan 2023, 5:06pmSimilar to the Manic Street Preachers, I believe.
