Greatest (Favorite) Live Album
Greatest (Favorite) Live Album
Official live albums seemed, to me at least, to be much more popular in the 70’s and 80’s. I was wondering what official live album is ranked number one in your eyes. There are many worthy contenders out there and I will admit to changing mine over the years. The one that I’m going to nominate to start the thread is Paul McCartney and Wings - Wings Over America. Triple album full of great music.

I'll give it more of a think, but what immediately popped into my head:
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

Lizzy is a good one and Leonard Cohen live in London does it for me, but if I had to choose one, I think i might plump for The Last Waltz, just packed with greatness and superlative performances from Dylan, Van Morrison and others.

A few that come to mind …
Public Image Ltd, Paris au Printemps (tho I prefer several boots from the same tour)
Swans, Swans Are Dead
The Velvet Underground, Live at End of Cole Ave (that's not a boot, is it?)
Bauhaus, Press Eject …
Sex Pistols, Winterland (I don't think this has been officially released yet, but whatever)
Gang of Four, At the Palace … just kidding

Re: Greatest (Favorite) Live Album
Wow, this is a good question.
The Who Live At Leeds is pretty damn powerful.
Lynyrd Skynyrd One More From The Road is pretty damn good too. Frampton Comes Alive has some stellar moments but isn't quite there for a double album in my view. For me, its got to be the Allman Brothers At Fillmore East, with Live At Leeds a close second. The Allmans at FIllmore is for me timeless. Just listened to it a couple of weekends ago while doing household chores and it was fabulous, made the chores a pleasureable experience, not an easy thing to do.

From what I see there's still a little hope

I've probably mentioned I was at the Newcastle City Hall in 1981 for the recording of No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith.
My favourites are probably Stop Making Sense, Hanx! and If You Want Blood. Might throw KISS Alive II in there as well.

Re: Greatest (Favorite) Live Album
Given how much studio augmentation went on with both Alive records, maybe that shouldn't count.

It happens all the time. Judas Priest's live release was nicknamed Unleashed In the Studio. Live and Dangerous wasn't live, or very dangerous, come to think of it.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Mar 2023, 6:20amGiven how much studio augmentation went on with both Alive records, maybe that shouldn't count.

Oh yeah, I know that. Those two KISS Alive records, as I understand it, are egregiously "improved."Heston wrote: ↑21 Mar 2023, 7:42amIt happens all the time. In some respects, that's one of the best things about a bootleg—you know that you're getting an actual live source.
