All this Hooters talk and no one has mentioned the amazing "Satellite?" Another case of a song being a decent hit around the world and struggling to make the top 60 in the States.

Wish you could see Animotion, Wang Chung, the Romantics, Naked Eyes (and more!) but only pay for parking once?

Agreed! I was always of the school (which is cliché, I know) that Cindy should have had the career Madonna had. Not that Cindy has had a bad career by any means and I am not trying to pit them against each other, but Cindy was just always more interesting.

Her outlook is fundamentally more empowering and liberating. Trust yourself and be yourself works at any age; Madonna’s “make men want to fuck you and you can gain power” is something that is dependent upon others and shaping yourself to appeal to them. Madonna’s persona is one that doesn’t exist if the camera isn’t on; Cyndi’s is always available.

Plus, Cindy's voice is better and she could make fun of herself.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 10:26amHer outlook is fundamentally more empowering and liberating. I didn't want to be obvious about that, but, yeah, that's part of the dependence on others thing.revbob wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 10:52amThat goes away after a while tooDr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 10:26amHer outlook is fundamentally more empowering and liberating. I was listening to a Madonna song recently and thought to myself, wow, she actually had/has a pretty unremarkable voice.JennyB wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 10:48amPlus, Cindy's voice is better and she could make fun of herself.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 10:26amHer outlook is fundamentally more empowering and liberating. She got better. Ray of Light is a great vocal.WestwayKid wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 11:26amI was listening to a Madonna song recently and thought to myself, wow, she actually had/has a pretty unremarkable voice.JennyB wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 10:48amPlus, Cindy's voice is better and she could make fun of herself.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 10:26amHer outlook is fundamentally more empowering and liberating. I like Cyndi Lauper but she never had the great material Madonna had to work with. And wasn't as pretty and sexy unfortunately.

Can anyone really imagine Madonna singing "True Colors"? Or Cyndi doing "Like a Virgin"?

Madonna was much more MTV-friendly. Young people need to understand the impact and sway MTV had on popular music for a period.

Crazy For You wasn't too far away from the soft ballad style of True Colors.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 11:59amCan anyone really imagine Madonna singing "True Colors"? Or Cyndi doing "Like a Virgin"?
