Hearing "Mr Chatterbox" in Inder's muxtape playlist brought about this question. What are the best compilations for pre-Catch A Fire material? I have the Soul Revolutionaries box set for the early 70s jamaican albums and a CD called Trenchtown Days: Birth Of A Legend with some 60s stuff. But there seems to be still a lot out there.
There are too many to chose from on Amazon - the Mr. Chatterbox CD, a few different "rarities from studio 1" type things, the One Love 2CD set. Is there not one or two that would be all inclusive?

Oh, word. I have the two volumes of that set and I think they're about as good as anything else (they're out of print, so I think they've been supplanted by other stuff - but really, it's all basically the same music).Inder wrote:I've got this one, which is quite good:
I wonder if any of the new comps have been lovingly remastered... might be worth an upgrade.

That one looks pretty good, as does it's second volume. Not too many repeat tracks from the one I have either. Then I have to get this one because the clip of Whats New Pussycat sounds great:
I'm probably just going to end up buying them all.

Disc one of the Box set "Songs of Freedom" is ace with Judge Not, One Cup of Coffee, Simmer Down, or any of the early Studio One comps are great.
