I like cover versions except when horrible bands like KISS try and cover someone great like The Replacements. ;)

The DK's "Rawhide" ok prefer their cover of "Viva Las Vegas"

Motorhead "Louie Louie" yay or nay?

I'm sure someone can disprove me in short order, but I have never, ever, ever heard a truly bad version of Louie, Louie.

That Manc postman guy--did anyone record his versions?
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Thirded. The genius of that song is its immunity to wretched interpretation. One of the reasons to watch Coupe de Ville (other than it being a funny Stand By Meish flick) is the "Louie Louie" medley over the closing credits.

Yep I believe Jon the Postman did eventually record a version of "Louie Louie" and respect to you for remembering.

Nay.

Original is unbeatable.

I'm not big Foo Fighters fan, but I was pleasantly surprised by their cover of Down in the Park. Not as good as the original, but pretty serviceable.
