I completely comfortable with accusing Clapton of any crime on earth.

There is. Or rather, there's one of him saying too-dispassionately that he doesn't think about it anymore, implication of career expediency doing its job.

It's the same interview where he doesn't apologize for his racist statements from the 70's.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

I can't give him too much grief about it. So he got over the death of his son some 20 or so years ago and doesn't want to play it anymore?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

You are barred from all discussions of musician douchebaggery, and you know it.

He had no time for his son when he was alive, which makes the song all the more puke-inducing. Throw in his recent comments about the song and his racist past (not to mention his Live Aid involvement and general shitness) and you have a good case for public disembowelment.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

I beg to differ. My grandma wore him as a hat to church every Sunday.
