Hey Flex (All Encompassing 90's Glorification)
Re: Hey Flex (All Encompassing 90's Glorification)
“Smooth” is a very well written and executed song. Overplayed to hell, but that’s not the song’s fault.
I remember this spawned the trend of taking has been acts and pairing them with hip modern acts. Run DMC had a pretty abysmal album with Fred Durst and Third Eye Blind sometime after. I don’t think DMC is even on the album since his voice is all fucked. No songs as good as Smooth on that one.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I found out recently this song was co-written by a guy who used to be in one of my favorite bands, Groove Collective.matedog wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 6:47pm“Smooth” is a very well written and executed song. Overplayed to hell, but that’s not the song’s fault.

In fact, they were rather powerless before their labour contract.

On a whim I put together a 90s Topical Songs playlist. a Few jokey/silly songs in there, but a lot of good stuff too.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

I'd say about 90% of those songs are new to me. Listening now.

Hello,
I've always liked the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. I follow Michael Franti's stuff now but seldom listen.

Yeah, Franti just went a little too hippy a few years back. His early stuff and his first few Speahead albums are quite good tho. I'd have included Beatnigs but they were 80s.

Id say about 90% are good or great. Not Sublime though, that's in the 10%.

That was sort of a joke inclusion. I originally planned to have more stupid songs, but I quickly started including more good ones too

The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy were the most cutting edge thing to my 16 year old ears. Great record and well worth a spin. Their predecessor band, the Beatnigs, were pretty good too!
