I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

I still have Fush Yu Mang rambling around here somewhere, didn't like any of their follow up releases tho.

And it has become obvious that this board has a secret, deep passion for EMF. A passion I wholeheartedly endorse.

Oh, and my pick is The Real McCoy.

Next round:

Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm

or

The Cardigans - Love Fool

(P.S. God, kinda forgot how much I enjoy the latter song until I dug up the video)
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Pex Lives!

The Cardigans had another single that I rather enjoyed as well. CTDs had some Superman song that my stepbrother kept playing for me. I go with the Swedes or whatever they are.

Non-obvious song choice edition:
Cracker - Get Off This

Spin Doctors - Little Miss Can't Be Wrong

(can't embed)
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

re: CTD and The Cardigans, yeah, neither are strictly One Hit Wonders and (although Mmm Mmm Mmm is by far their most successful single), but we seem to be mostly doing bands with one or a small handful of 90s hits, so i think they're okay.

Cracker versus The Spin Doctors? Cracker, tho there ehn't nothin' wrong with a little Spin Doctors now and again.

This should be a toughy:

Divinyls - I Touch Myself:

or

Edwyn Collins - A Girl Like You:

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

I was going through the Empire Records before the last one (Cracker is on it) and almost picked EC. For this one, I'm choosing Divinyls because that is such an anthem with a stellar hook. EC's is a solid tune though.

Early 90's Hip Hop Edition:
US3 - Cantaloop (original video version, the second one that I saw the most isn't embeddable)

Arrested Development - Tennessee (they had a few hits to be fair):

Fuck, that's a tough one. Both are phenomenal tracks. I was prepared to vote for Arrested Development but I just played the two videos and I forgot how fucking hip that Us3 song is. Cantaloop wins this round.

Some latter 90s electronica:

Lo Fidelity All Stars - Battle Flag:

or

Fatboy Slim - Praise You:

Addendum: I think it's hard to justify a pick for the former if we're talking overall bodies of work, but I think it's an interesting question if we're doing a song faceoff. Also, Fatboy Slim is very dubiously a one hit wonder, but in the U.S. the chart success has been a lot spottier than I would have thought.

Wicked. Are there any other groups that are in this vein? AP scratches an itch that 90's jazz-rap (De La, TCQ, et al) simply cannot.

Chow Yun Fatboy Slim Pickens had a unique video and good hooks, but Lo Fi rocks harder. I go with them. I actually couldn't remember based on the title, but right after I heard the first line I said "smells of corruption" right on time.

San Diego late 90's one hit wonders edition:
Sprung Monkey - Get Em Outta Here

Buck-o-nine - My Town

Re: LFAS, that album was on play constantly for me the summer it came out. I was enamored with it. I think it was around the same time Hello Nasty was released. Great soundtrack for summer.

Fuck, I don't even need to play the videos. I remember both bands and Buck O Nine wins it. Love that group.

Battle of the shitty but sort of unforgettable songs:

Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy:

or

Tag Team - Whoomp... There It Is:

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Arrested Development had better pop sensibilities than De La and ATCQ. Next round I will throw some more early 90's jazz rap although it is more in the vein of ATCQ than AD.

So to answer your question, no.

A couple other songs I remember liking (not sure if thier one-hit-wonders) are 'Mistake' by Serial Joe and 'Steal My Sunshine' by Ren or whatever the fuck thier called. I liked The Tea Party as well.

I blame my age for this. :disshame: :twitch:
