The beef that I usually have with their critics is that nobody knows more than 3 songs and bases their entire opinion on that. Fair enough if people have heard a good chunk of their stuff and don't like them, but I don't understand people that take singles as the definitive statement a band can make.

Ugh, a closet Smash Mouth fan is more contemptible than a loud and proud Flexian.Kory wrote: ↑29 Mar 2022, 6:18pmProbably because I don't often try to speak up and defend any of it. I've made a mental note on this matter.

Oh I'm not un-proud; I certainly don't believe in guilty pleasures, etc. I just don't bring it up often because other stuff is more rich for discussion.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑29 Mar 2022, 6:35pmUgh, a closet Smash Mouth fan is more contemptible than a loud and proud Flexian.Kory wrote: ↑29 Mar 2022, 6:18pmProbably because I don't often try to speak up and defend any of it. I was going to say I always enjoyed John Otto's drumming, but he's the Limp Bizkit drummer. Chad Sexton is the 311 drummer and he is also quite good.Kory wrote: ↑29 Mar 2022, 6:19pmThe beef that I usually have with their critics is that nobody knows more than 3 songs and bases their entire opinion on that. Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I liked his style more back when he was using a piccolo snare, but he certainly hasn't lost any technique.matedog wrote: ↑31 Mar 2022, 3:30pmI was going to say I always enjoyed John Otto's drumming, but he's the Limp Bizkit drummer. Orange County Drum and Percussion piccolo snares were handed out for every alt/punk/ska record contract in the late 90s.Kory wrote: ↑31 Mar 2022, 3:31pmI liked his style more back when he was using a piccolo snare, but he certainly hasn't lost any technique.matedog wrote: ↑31 Mar 2022, 3:30pmI was going to say I always enjoyed John Otto's drumming, but he's the Limp Bizkit drummer. Misread that as "melody-free" which, hey, it might be.

Their first EP is muy tasty
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

I got one of their mid-period albums for free and it was alright.
Also Sum 41 is solidly 2000s, not 90s.
