Re: Musicians! Post your instruments!
Just picked up a Burns Bison '64 for a bargain £100, the bloke must've been desperate. Quirky design but beautiful to play....
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board
Re: Musicians! Post your instruments!
I lost some weight, so the jacket's a bit loose on me, but anyway here's me with my saxamaphone.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

In keeping with my DIY ethos I prefer to build my own:
My latest - 3-string cigar box guitar with hand-wound pickup and amp made from a 10 watt megaphone

Root-third-fifth? Try root-fifth-(minor) seventh for an interesting sound.JoseUnidos wrote:Thanks! Yep, I'm a lefty - more a basher than a player, tho.eumaas wrote:That's beautiful.JoseUnidos wrote:In keeping with my DIY ethos I prefer to build my own:

Mostly open-G, but I really need to mess with my tunings more - thanks for the tip!eumaas wrote:Root-third-fifth? Try root-fifth-(minor) seventh for an interesting sound.JoseUnidos wrote:Thanks! Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I bought this from a local mom and pop with my tax refund money:
Lap Steel for open tuning slide fun.

What was that line that Tep had about Gene's moustache at age sixteen? Something about making him look seventeen? Wolter, you're the keeper of Tep lore, help me out.matedog wrote:You look 15 here.eumaas wrote:I lost some weight, so the jacket's a bit loose on me, but anyway here's me with my saxamaphone.

Re: Musicians! Post your instruments!
R-5-7 (sometimes just R-7) is the same sort of thing Thelonious Monk would do in his left hand on the piano. What it does is free up the tonality so you can suggest major or minor as you like since there isn't a 3 to specific major or minor. The major, properly, is Mixolydian--which is just the major scale with a minor seventh, so it's C D E F G A Bb C. You can probably get some twisted hillbilly sounds out of that tuning.JoseUnidos wrote:Mostly open-G, but I really need to mess with my tunings more - thanks for the tip!eumaas wrote:Root-third-fifth? Alto sax.
Telecaster.
I'm so punk, I don't even take my leather jacket off when it catches fire. Which it does frequently, because of how fucking punk I am.
Re: Musicians! Post your instruments!
Man... I got a couple new organs since my original post.. And it's been a while since I've gotten them...
This is me playing my workhorse practice/gigging organ... Late 60's Ace Tone Top-5. Bought it in almost showroom condition from a guy in Queens. Kept blowing fuses when I got it.. Had the filter caps replaced and it was good as new (capacitors "dry out" over time). Also used this in the studio on The Othermen's forthcoming LP "Just Pallin' Around With The Othermen". Ace Tone was a Japanese brand that was around until the mid 70's when they were bought by Roland.
I also got another mid-60's Farfisa Combo Compact.. This is what I keep at home for writing songs on. Its in great shape. Probably gonna use it on our next recording..
