So what's your concert schedule looking like?
Re: So what's your concert schedule looking like?
I am not very good at concert reviews, but here goes:
Saw the Pixies/Weezer last night. The opening band was a group called Basement and they were...fine. They were dressed like they were in a Pearl Jam video circa 1992. They were competent enough musicians, but nothing grabbed me.
What should have been an incredible Pixies set fell flat, but through no fault of their own. The set list was almost perfect (deep cuts interspersed with their more well known songs), Frank/Blackie/Charles sounded amazing (his voice still kills), Joey is a god and Paz fills Kim's shoes to the best of her ability. Unfortunately, the crowd brought the whole thing down. I imagine 95% of them were their for Weezer and they showed absolutely no interest in the Pixies. People were actually playing video games on their phone during the show. I would have been really upset had I not seen them about a year and a half ago as a headliner in a smaller venue. St. Louis does not deserve the Pixies.
I'm not a huge Weezer fan, and this Africa nonsense drives me batty, but they were actually really fun. It helped that they played a ton of songs from the blue album and that Rivers has a great rapport with the audience. I actually enjoyed their cover of Take on Me as well - it was a great power pop tribute. I could have done without the drunk guy in the Chili Peppers shirt behind me and his even more drunk significant other who were screaming the songs (the woman was screaming them incorrectly - she then passed out), but overall, it was really fun.

A horrible thought: Some people were there only to hear "Africa."

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

She was awful. During the Pixies, she had her elbow over the back of my chair and it was resting on my water bottle. I took video of her dancing to Africa, but I don't think I can post it here.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 11:56amNothing could make this day darker.JennyB wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 11:54amI think the woman in front of us was. My wife refuses to go so I have to bribe one of the saucepan lids to come with me. On the plus side he’s a lot easier to understand then Stephen Hawkins.Marky Dread wrote: ↑01 Apr 2019, 2:14pmThings are not going to get better.101Walterton wrote: ↑01 Apr 2019, 1:58pmLecture on space and time featuring the Big Bang theory and black holes.
