That's because New Order isn't New Order without Hooky.
I dunno, 3 quarters of the original band is good enough for me and Tom Chapman does a reasonable job of sounding like Hook.
Less than 3/4 is usually my cutoff for seeing a legacy band, but for me Hooky is too integral, so it doesn't fly.
I have to agree with your "3/4" rule, it's just not the same without the original members. But I've made exceptions, just had to see the Replacements back in 2015.
And with some bands there are key members that cant be overlooked. Dead Kennedys immediately comes to mind. No Jello no DK.
No McCartney, it's not Wings! :shifty:

A thousand times "YES" -- do not miss this show.

I saw them 2 years ago, and New Order a few months afterwards.

I loved both concerts, and I thought Peter Hook & the Light put on the better show.

Wire is a good example of me contradicting myself from above. They meet the 3/4 rule but I think of Bruce as being totally integral. I just needed to see them though. Plus they have a history of moving on without members. In the case of Peter Hook, it's probably a bass player thing, a hating Stephen Hague thing, and the fact that I just like him a lot more than Bernard Albrecht.

Please, we're talking about Wings here. This is serious stuff. Inder's ears have to be burning.

Going to see the Lemonheads next Wednesday. Maybe the 4th time for me. Evan Dando puts on a surprisingly good show.

How much of their early punk stuff do they play these days?

Not much. Set list is evenly spread out from early to most recent work. I'm guessing maybe a song from Hate your Friends and maybe a few from Lovey will be the oldest.

We are going to take VH, Jr. to a Beastie Boys tribute band concert on November 27th. They are called Posse in Effect. I have a bad feeling it is going to lean heavily in the LTI direction, but we'll see.

pulled the trigger on Chicago/Brian Wilson tickets at Red Rocks for June '22. Brian definitely is in the category of "see him any chance you get because it's gonna be your last shot one of these days" and hopefully being at Red Rocks brings him out of his stupor for the show. As for Chicago, well, I suppose i've long toyed with the idea of becoming a Chicago Appreciator. Their early stuff could be tasty, although I imagine what I see on stage will be the easiest listening of their most amiable hits. Ah well. Maybe they'll recreate a little Beachago, that would be cool.

It sucked. I know I shouldn't have expected much (I'm not generally a fan of tribute bands, but Ari never got to see the real thing, so I thought it would be fun). They didn't seem to get the memo that the Beastie Boys moved beyond the frat-boy attitude (and I know many argue that that schtick was satire in the first place - you and I talked about that before). They, like I predicted, played mostly LTI songs. They played Girls. Unironically.

Adding to the shittiness was the fact that we had to sit through an hour of a dj's set. Which is fine if you are at a club going dancing, but not fine when you are sitting down and waiting for a show to start.

I remember when you posted that I thought "well, as long as they don't play Girls it can't be too bad..." Oh boy.
