Not positive, but I think he was out in 1980ish, so I probably didn't get to see him. But I distinctly remember Robert Smith drinking a can of Coors beer on stage, some clown in the audience yells out something about "non-union" beer and Smith telling him to piss off.Kory wrote: ↑02 Jun 2023, 4:58pmOh that was when Mathieu Hartley was still in the band right?
So what's your concert schedule looking like?

God, what a mess, on the ladder of success
Where you take one step and miss the whole first rung

Saw the Cure tonight in Chicago and they were fantastic. I’ve seen them more than a few times & this might have been the best. 3 hour set. Great song selection: everything from Killing an Arab to the underrated Want from Wild Mood Swings. The new songs were good and left me really, really, really wanting them to finally release it. Robert Smith’s voice has not aged. Best part was taking my 13 year old son. He’s not all that familiar with their music, but he had a great time.

Been going to shows for the Burlington Jazz Festival the past few days. There's been a bunch of free shows at the waterfront.
Dee Dee Bridgewater and the Memphis Symphony
We Intend to Cause Havoc (Zambian rock band, lots of fun)
Kamasi Washington
and some others.
I missed way more than I saw. Planning to get out again today.

I've been mentioning to people how his voice has held up. I think there's a lot to be said for singing in your natural speaking register in terms of longevity.WestwayKid wrote: ↑11 Jun 2023, 2:45amSaw the Cure tonight in Chicago and they were fantastic. Work trip to Austin. A few of us left to explore the darker underground of the city. Think somewhat okay young bands playing extremely loud noise/punk rock. Add 12 bottles of Lone Star and I kind of remember what it meant to be a kid again. I felt alive.

Doing stuff like this is healthy - mentally, anyway.

This won't help but I only went because a friend sorted out tickets. I'd had them down as a bit pastiche but I was wrong. They put on such a show and they were so on it. Curious about how they go in a stadium when they're supporting the artic monkeys but I'd find it hard to believe anyone wouldn't enjoy them.gkbill wrote: ↑14 Jun 2023, 12:04amHello,ArmagideonTim wrote: ↑13 Jun 2023, 7:05pmIMG_20230613_210549.jpg

From last Saturday. One of my fave bands plays original songs, but also does covers, including this one. It's a pretty epic performance.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
