Violent Femmes September 3rd!
How many times have you seen them? I do need to check them out some day. Any thoughts on seeing them through the years? I believe they've had minor lineup switches.
This will be into the teens - don't know for sure. Yeah, they have only changed drummers once (I believe, over the years) and added the Horns of Dilemma section (which I think has been a benefit). They have never, over the years, disappointed me live. They don't come in with a setlist, so you never know what you'll hear. There's really no other band out there like them.
Very cool. Didn't know about the lack of setlist.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Just bought my first ticket (for a December show) since all the cancellations. We'll see what happens.

I'm sure Pearl Jam will be as great as ever.

Yeah, of course. But I'm used to it now after having 7 shows canceled last year, so I might as well buy it, not get my hopes up and maybe I can go.

Man, it's hard for me to think of many rock bands I dislike more than them. Just like listening to sludge.

I don't even think dislike describes it for me. They're just profoundly dull. I can't grasp what I'm supposed to find appealing, like all their obsessives do.

Without jumping to their defense there is far worse.

I saw X and the Avengers at a festival on Sunday. Both were great. I’ll be seeing Joan Jett & The Blackhearts at the same festival this Sunday.

Certainly, but the combination of critical acclaim and fan devotion is what does it for me. They're like an updated Grateful Dead.

Yeah that's a good analogy.
