The Fawlty Towers?
That was Torquay, mate.
Basil don.
You know the score.
Named after the rat, or the hotel proprietor?
Maybe a controversial opinion, but Cleese was better on FT than in MP. His character was such a perfect assemblage of insanity, frustration, and assholery.

FT as good as any MP sketch so you aren’t wrong.

Easily. Basil is the part he will forever be defined by. I can still watch them for the umpteenth time and guffaw all over again.

Okay, I've been backed up by two Limeys, so I'm in the clear!

Hello,

Why has there never been a band called The Fawlty Towers? Trademark issues?

There were snatches of that on the Flying Circus, but it's kind of hard to compare a sketch show and a sitcom. He was never any one character long enough to flesh it out much.

Nobody crosses Connie Booth with their sense of self-worth intact.

That's fair, tho by contrast I'd say Dave Foley was better on KitH than NewsRadio (not that he was lousy on NR). Just thinking about which series I'd prefer to watch them on.

True. I'm in the middle of Newsradio right now (I got the box for Xmas), and Foley's character certainly misses the silly anarchy of his KITH incarnations. He's kind of the boring straight character in an office full of cartoons.

And he plays it very well—an excellent straight man. Such a good series, but never recovered from Phil Hartman's death.

It's strange to live in a world where Jon Lovitz couldn't save something.

He wasn't even bad in his season on the show, but the group energy just got drained.
