Not sure if I'll spend $70+ to go see Billy Bragg. Any thoughts?

70 seems steep, how much are the Bob Mould tix? That said I saw him wow, over 17 years ago now. I dont recall the cost but it was a good show, just him and his guitar half acoustic/half electric. Very personable. chatting with people after and signing autographs and such. Im disappointed he's not hitting VT this time but apparently his Montreal booking fell thru so he's skipping us too.
Mould was like $40 which was fine. I've been a fan of his for 35 years and seeing him in a 200 seat venue seems worth it. Bragg would be fun but I am more of a passive fan so the price felt wrong.
Hello,

Tickets have gone up as (I think) concert revenue is a larger part of an artist's income - record/cd/streaming is not a big contributor anymore.

I saw Billy Bragg a long time ago in the Lone Star in New York - just him and his guitars. About halfway through the show, a bunch of ATT executive showed up to claim their reserved table upstairs. The immediate next song, Billy opened it with "This song is dedicated to the gentlemen up there" pointing towards their table. They were pretty pleased about that. Bragg then played There is Power in a Union - they left a song or two later.

I like Billy a lot but I've seen him so many times over the years that the only way I'd consider paying that much is if he played with a full band which I'd like to see for a change some day.

He was saying he wS trying to decrease his carbon foorprint and therfore traveling with a very small crew/equipment amd most things will be sourced local to the area of the performance and he will be driving from show to show.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on Roxy tickets. I've been a RM/Bryan Ferry since I was a teenager. My only concern is how decent his voice is. I found a few clips and it seems like he's lost the top end of his range, but has adjusted comfortably into a lower register.
He sang, in German no less, in an episode of Babylon Berlin (binge watch it, it's great), and his voice sounded very good.

Of course, this was a high-end TV production, so who knows how much his voice was audio processed.

I'm seeing New Order and Pet Shop Boys in early October at the Armory, a really cool venue in Minneapolis.

I found a few clips from 2019/20 and while he's lost the high end of his range, he's adjusted so that it still works. I did buy the tickets. RM has been a bucket list concert for me and this tour is featuring all of the core members (other than Eno).

I've never seen Pet Shop Boys, but have seen NO several times and despite what some might say - they still sound fantastic live even without Hooky.

Unlikely, this is a tiny venue.

Yeah, doubt it'll ever happen again. I was only saying from my perspective I've seen him probably a dozen times solo now and would love to see him just once with a band behind him. Just wishful thinking. Anyway, I've enjoyed every one of those shows, including the one in nyc where i was seriously jetlagged and doubling up in cramp on the aisle, and I'm fairly sure I'll be there next time he's in town too!

So, I'm working back into concert mode. I will say I've been slow with covid restrictions and the cold weather but that's changing.
Here's what I have coming up...
In March:
Jeremy and The Harlequins @ The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ (Rock band out of Brooklyn)
Jesse Malin & Willie Nile @ Stone Pony in Asbury Park
Gary Allan @ Penns Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA (Outlaw Country)
April:
Old 97's @ Crossroads in Garfield, NJ (This is a maybe)
Jack White @ The Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville (Wife is happy, I'm happy, a mini Vacation, she gets lots of country and I get Jack White)
June:
Fitz and the Tantrums @ Levitt Pavilion Steel Stacks in Bethlehem, Pa
Barefoot Country Festival on the Beach in Wildwood, NJ
August:
Elvis Costello and The Imposters @ Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pa (I've never seen Elvis, probably should have seen him in the 80's!)
I got to meet Jesse Malin after a DGen reunion show a couple years ago. He (and Danny and Rich) were nice people. I didn't attempt to talk to Michael.
I got to meet Jesse after the Asbury Park “Light of Day” Show. Super nice and commented on my Prima Donna band t-shirt. Commenting that they are a great bunch of guys.

Thanks the cool thing was Jesse did a cover of Rudie Can’t Fail and what made it special was he had a two piece horn section that really gave the song depth (being a cover, that is). It freaks me out when all of a sudden he yelled “On the Route of the 19 Bus!” LOL
