As much as I hate him, I hate his fans even more. They are so smug. About Dave Fucking Mathews.

According to this, Dave Matthews has never performed the song. I think you're thinking of John Mayer, who sucks.

He does, but he sucks nowhere near as badly as DM. He doesn't actively court the hateful hippie audience DM does and therefore objectively sucks less. And Mayer is actually a skilled guitar player, just wouldn't know it from his music.

And that's the end of my half hearted defense of Mayer vs. Dave Matthews.

I've always thought DM fans were more popular high school kids who thought listening to him made them alternative. Maybe that was just my high school.

I honestly don't know a single Dave Matthews song and know him mostly from an episode of House. I know one John Mayer song, but don't know what it's called. There's an upside to becoming your parents vis a vis popular culture.

You know what else bugs me about DM fans? The way they refer to him as just Dave. Like, "I'm going to Dave's show tonight" or "I'm going to pick up Dave's new album." Sorry, but the only Dave I see around here is Letterman. It's like they think he's Cher or something. Maybe when he becomes a gay icon and has a transgendered daughter, we can talk. But until then, shut the fuck up Dave Matthews fans.

My high school, too. "Crash" got voted my senior class's song. Despite an active and semi-successful resistance effort I am happy to say I was part of to derail its coronation with a write-in campaign for Nada Surf's "Popular" (unfortunately the opposition bloc fragmented some when some me-too Dungeons & Dragons Club killjoys united behind Jimmy Buffet's "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw"). I got threatened by the senior class vice-president (a.k.a. head cheerleader) with promises of unleashing vile rumor-mongering about my sexuality if I didn't back off th' DMB (that old crutch: letting old men blow me in the city library lavatory...not even creative because everyone who pissed off the cheerleading squad ended up getting blown by old men in the city library lavatory. Or so they say. :shifty: ).

Now you understand why 2 months after graduation I moved to Boston and never went back.

I almost added that to the end of my post but I'm glad I didn't because this was way funnier than what I would have written.

luckily we escaped having a 'dave' class song, although ours was either green day's good riddance which was already played out by 2001, and was done in near falsetto by the principal at the talent show, or billy joel's time to remember voted for by people un-ironically, so not much better
