As you know, for someone as musically obsessive as me, I'm pathetically, hilariously crap at singing and playing. However, I am very, very gradually improving. This is probably the best I've yet done.

Props to you! Much better than anything I could ever hope to do.

Hello,

But - you have to play them both backwards.

Friends, Earthling is a great album. I'll not hear anything against it.

The songs are great and can definitely stand on their own, but there's a bit of a double bonus for me as a drum & bass fan. The whole thing has a great texture and mood.

I remember a lot of people at the time badmouthing the album as a failed attempt at drum & bass, but it has held up a lot stronger than many of the contemporaries.

I’d argue it’s as underrated as a 90s Bowie release as Lodger was as a 70s one.

I also remember a lot of people making the claim at that time that he was becoming a follower instead of a leader or pioneer. Which totally forgets the fact that he followed Philly soul and krautrock among other styles already. He'd always been a follower, it's not news.

Yeah, his main ability even at his peak was Early Adopter and Bringer To the Mainstream. And he was 50! How many 50 year olds in the mid 90s were doing anything beyond re-recording their greatest hits as acoustic songs or releasing mediocre albums trying to sound like they did when they were 30?
