Re: Public Image Limited
Watched the documentary this morning over breakfast. Not a huge surprise that it's an extension of his last memoir. John's a great guy, he's loyal, he's a hard worker, he's been fucked over time and again by people he works with but still loves them all. There's a certain irony that the documentary makes PiL out to be the story of one man's efforts, yet he constantly talks about how it's supposed to be a group effort … and it's the others who failed at that. He puts a lot of emphasis on the childhood meningitis experience and losing his memory and how traumatic that was, how it shaped his character—both being wary and elevating loyalty. If you've read his book, there isn't much here that will change your views, I don't imagine.

I won't say I like them—as in, I'd like to have a conversation with some who talks like that—but they fit the approach to the cover.Marky Dread wrote: ↑28 Sep 2020, 7:06amAhh man those vocals are fucking awful. Re: Public Image Limited
They are awful because they are trying too hard to mimic Lydon. John's voice is distinct and that gives him his uniqueness. I've never heard anyone who tries to imitate him ever sound any good.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑28 Sep 2020, 7:19amI won't say I like them—as in, I'd like to have a conversation with some who talks like that—but they fit the approach to the cover.Marky Dread wrote: ↑28 Sep 2020, 7:06amAhh man those vocals are fucking awful. I don't think it's an active attempt to mimic Lydon. The guy just has a hideous vocal tone.Marky Dread wrote: ↑28 Sep 2020, 7:44amThey are awful because they are trying too hard to mimic Lydon. Seriously you gotta be joking. He apes the phrasing and tries and fails desperately to mimic Lydon's tonality.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑28 Sep 2020, 8:29amI don't think it's an active attempt to mimic Lydon. Here is his more usual shouty punk vocal which doesn't sound like Lydon.

That actor from the covers band did a pretty creditable Rotten, I thought.
