Hoy is much blacker and boobier than I thought.
Now I'm on a deep dive. This interview with the sketch writers is almost as funny as the sketch itself: https://www.vulture.com/2018/12/snl-mat ... iters.html
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

The whole thing works because you don't even need to know anything about Weezer for it to be funny—just fans being dorks and awful like fans are. And if you do know Weezer, it's just filled with in-jokes that are pure heroin. It really is a superb piece of work in the way it functions at both levels.

Yeah, the writers say you could just replace weezer with whatever and it works, to your point, and everyone has something they're like this about so it's pretty universal. Really astonishingly funny stuff for a show I wrote off about 15 years ago.

Yeah, I'm a bit baffled by how much discussion that SNL generates because whenever I check out the hilariousness that people are killing themselves over, I feel really old and confused.

That's just called "sundowning" pops. SNL comes on after dark.

The Dumont used to show real comedies. You'd wander down to the drug store with your best gal, buy her an egg cream, and catch The Morey Amsterdam Show. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

I don't think I've seen this before, it's extremely funny:

"I'm ride or die."

"...for Weezer?"
Hoy is much blacker and boobier than I thought.
Oh I missed these posts earlier. Yeah I saw this a few years ago and it is impressively accurate. I'm definitely halfway between Leslie Jones and Matt Damon. The first two albums are obviously the best, but there is merit to the rest of their work.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Also, for some reason "I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams" is their #8 most listened to song on Spotify right now? It's a terrific song, but a Pinkerton b-side, so quite obscure. I'm guessing it's some Tik Tok thing?

I want Weezer fans to take this as an opportunity to turn against the Blue Album, too.

Good on them for keeping a gimic going that long.

Weezer or Weezer's fans who are perpetually disappointed by the band?

One? Good?
Weezer fans have to revere the first two albums so they can scream for vengeance on pretty much everything after.
