The sax was the most misused instrument in the 1980's. Guy in the office next to me is playing the radio and while I can't quite here the songs in detail - I can hear a lot of really obnoxious sax.

My guess is that 9 times out of 10, when I hear a sax in a song, I fucking hate it.

Depends what type of music the sax is being used for. De xys Midnight Runners / The Ruts both used sax and made some ace records.

Not my music really but there were many crimes in the 80s. All discipline went out of the window with everything plus the kitchen sink being thrown in to mixes etc.

Well WestwayKid only mentioned the 80s. So I just mentioned a couple I liked that used sax from the early 80s. Of course I love the Spex but they were finished by then. And as Laxman mentioned ToH he knows I'm a big fan.

Spear of Destiny made good use of the sax too. A band called the Clash also used sax a lot to good effect.

Same sax player as The Ruts.

I hate that song more than I should, but it was bloody ubiquitous in its day. Seemed like every radio station was obliged to play it once an hour.
