Every time I'm reminded showaddbladdy existed, I get livid.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

Good god, that is a contender for the worst band name.
Second to Limp Bizkit.
That's a very 1a/1b kinda thing.
Yeah probably. Showaddywaddy is only taken from a doo wop style backing vocal and for a rock n roll tribute act it's ok. Whereas Limp Bizkit is just fucking dumb.

This story on Everything But the Girl recording a new album is written like they haven't seen each other in twenty years instead of, you know, being married and having raised a family together.

Not terribly keen on the first song from it. Just not my thing.

I figured you’d be more open to it. I’ll still get the album when it comes out—Tracey Thorn can sing the phonebook as far as I’m concerned—but I know I’m not the target audience.

I just did a deep dive on this board's history of discussion Showdaddydaddy and it's 90% older English board members talking whimsically about them and 10% Wolter basically saying "this is pretty good stuff."
Check out Under the Moon of Love. That, along with Silver Lady by David Soul and Daddy Cool by Darts were the songs that got me into music, big time.
I did give Under the Moon of Love a spin and then listened to the original and then wondered why I bothered listening to the cover.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I don't even think I've heard the original.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

What I always found funny was Mud had already recorded it for an album in 1975 a year before Showaddywaddy had a hit with it.

But Matey is spot on saying the Curtis Lee original 1961 version produced by Phil Spector is the best.
