This song title popped in my head. A friend back then loved it, but I couldn't remember a thing about the song (or even who did it). But … yeah, this is in the mix for worst of the 80s. See if you can endure more than 30 seconds.
Checkmate 90s.

Also, it wasn't that bad. It wasn't good by any means, but it was jaunty and mildly catchy. The soft part was less good, but I'd rather listen to that than Bittersweet Symphony.

I guess checkmate 80s.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I'm trying to write a lecture on disco for this fall and am close to shelving the whole thing. Just too damned much important material and I'm hitting a wall in terms of cuts and compression. Socio-economic context, the rise of the club DJ, gay cultural politics, the Philly sound, Eurodisco, Studio 54, Saturday Night Fever, antidisco and the collapse—just too damned much for 80 minutes (plus playing a little bit of music). The perversity is that the whole lecture was sparked by my fascination with "Disco Duck," and I've already thrown that over the side. I'm probably going to give it another day or two more and then set it aside. Maybe after a month, coming back a better way forward will appear. Depressing, tho.
