When you think of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, you think Foo Fighters, right?

They're right up there with Pearl Jam as one of the World's Most Boring Bands.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 3:29pmWhen you think of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, you think Foo Fighters, right?

I wish Dave Grohl were an asshole because it'd be easier to completely dismiss Foo Fighters. But he's pretty much what you hope for from a guy with his status. He just makes really dull hard rock.WestwayKid wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 3:37pmThey're right up there with Pearl Jam as one of the World's Most Boring Bands.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 3:29pmWhen you think of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, you think Foo Fighters, right?

They sell out stadiums over here. Absolutely mystifying, a thoroughly average band.WestwayKid wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 3:37pmThey're right up there with Pearl Jam as one of the World's Most Boring Bands.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 3:29pmWhen you think of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, you think Foo Fighters, right?

It's BECAUSE of their averageness that they sell. It's rare that anyone of real interest becomes VERY popular, since the 70s at least.Heston wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 4:04pmThey sell out stadiums over here. I like a couple of their songs, but not enough to buy the album or go see them live.Heston wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 4:04pmThey sell out stadiums over here. Oasis split up in 2009. Surely Coldplay are bigger offenders....101 Walterton.Heston wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 4:08pmSad but true. I think Everlong is pretty. Erm. I like the one about no one getting out of there alive. Not too inspired by them otherwise, but I want to like em.

I like their first single. I agree on Everlong and I also like a couple of cover versions which appeared as b-sides.Silent Majority wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 4:44pmI think Everlong is pretty. Erm. I have Colour and Shape and saw them play with Weezer in 2005. I wouldn't have seen them play otherwise, but they were surprisingly entertaining. They've got a handful of songs I can get behind, but yeah, their big singles are so aggressively blah. There's probably more interesting stuff in there if you dig deep, but I'm not going to bother.Sparky wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 4:08pmI like a couple of their songs, but not enough to buy the album or go see them live.Heston wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 4:04pmThey sell out stadiums over here. They seem about as establishment as you can get, so it's not remotely surprising that they are going to HoF.
Also Dave Grohl breaking his leg and then coming back to finish the concert was pretty cool.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

That's exactly it. And why I hate the entire idea of a RNRHoF. The very concept is about excising anything cool about the music. Even if in practice it hasn't been rebellious in years and years, that kind of institutionalization is a big ol middle finger to the potential.
