Yup, very bland. Though Grohl does seem like a decent guy who loves to "rawk", I was never a fan of Nirvana in the first place. I will point to this SNL performance backing Jagger in 2013 (I know only Tep and me care ) - it does help to have a some great songwriting and a front-man who can sing and deliver the goods. And they actually comp "It's Only Rock n' Roll" the original studio way - what with Kenny Jones' off-kilter rhythm pattern (which Charlie, at the time, said he couldn't better, so they didn't re-record it) and Grohl at least attempting Bowie's backing vocal part. The Stones have never played it remotely close to the studio original, for whatever reason (just turned it into another Chuck Berry chug), and Mick does seem inspired on this performance. So there's that...

Oh shit, yeah, of course I know that (albeit without knowing its name or the group).gkbill wrote: ↑20 Jan 2020, 10:46pmHello,Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑20 Jan 2020, 8:39pm*rimshot*
(I can't say I've ever actually heard anything by them.)
AWB was actually fairly popular a while back. Check out Pick Up the Pieces. It's got a very memorable hook.

Outside of "Stayin' Alive," it's gotta be *the* standard disco song.BitterTom wrote: ↑21 Jan 2020, 8:34amThe ultimate earworm.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Jan 2020, 7:11amOh shit, yeah, of course I know that (albeit without knowing its name or the group).gkbill wrote: ↑20 Jan 2020, 10:46pmHello,Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑20 Jan 2020, 8:39pm*rimshot*

The winner has to be this one the backing track has used been used for countless hits. The guy that wrote it is a multi millionaire off that one song.

Chic has several tracks that could qualify: Good Times and São Paulo come to mind.

I don't think it qualifies for this context, but their song Everybody Dance is a fuckin' banger.WestwayKid wrote: ↑21 Jan 2020, 3:45pmChic has several tracks that could qualify: Good Times and São Paulo come to mind.

Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
Disco was often lazy and inane, especially once it became mainstream popular, but the best songs beat the fuck out of mainstream rock of the period. I'm not sure I'd fully trust someone who didn't worship "Love Train."
