Anyone looking for a good disco book that ties it into larger cultural matters, Echols is solid. I taught it once in my rock class and will likely do so again someday.

Are the Chi-lites disco? I like that band.
I think they were pre-disco weren't they?
I think they go back to the 60s but they straddled disco era too. Just i got a couple of old vinyl disco collection lps and there are chi lites songs on them. But the good stuff - have you seen her, oh girl, time for love - is all early, r&b i suppose. The vocals on oh girl are just stupendously good.

Love that Real Thing track.

Was perusing some lists of disco tracks last night, like this one:

https://www.demonmusicgroup.co.uk/catal ... sco-album/

Some good stuff there, but The Communards, the Drifters, Gladys Night? They dont strike me as disco at all. I see the likes of Blondie and Diana Ross on other lists. Dont really know what the strict definition of disco is, but never ever thought for a minute that Heart of Glass was it.

From that compilation, how amazing is this band name?

This album features Leo Sayer, but no Donna Summer.

I always thought of Heart of Glass as a disco tune. They even recorded the drums as if they were programming a drum machine, recording bass drum, snare and all the rest separately. Atomic is another one I think of as a disco tune.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Heart of Glass is totally disco. Originally called "The Disco Song' and recorded (1975) a few years before being released as a single and on Parallel Lines.

Can't argue with that! Never knew the history of the song, great listen, the single version always probably been my favourite blondie track.

Pretty sure I have heard an early reggae demo as well.
