If the Beatles were starting out now would those McCartney songs get the same recognition they currently get? I’d suggest definitely not. They were brilliant at that time as was McCartney’s writing but time has moved on and maybe McCartney’s writing hasn’t.
But those songs would have emerged as they did in 2019 as they in the 60s. Production techniques, promotion and sales, cultural influences—all that make it impossible to hypothesize that. The Beatles were a product of their times as much as they produced their times. It's just impossible to meaningfully think about those songs being written and recorded outside their time. I'm sort of agreeing with you here, but more fully I'm saying that the premise is too difficult or complex to consider.
This isn’t to take anything away from the Beatles or McCartney but like a lot of things that were once brilliant and groundbreaking they are now commonplace but remembered fondly for breaking that ground.
They did have the advantage, like Dylan or Elvis, of being there in the early days. They had the opportunity to shape things. But we appreciate them, in part, because they actually did shape things and push limits in ways that, say, the Dave Clark Five didn't. The Beatles had a marvellously restless spirit. They got bored quickly and needed to try something else. Regardless of era, that's a rare quality (the Clash, duh, come to mind as another band that had that same restlessness). But, definitely, it means more because of when it happened. Much easier to be an innovator at the start than after a form has been established.
Agreed.
Good point about being there at the start it is a lot easier to be an innovator. Some songs are still around from 50’s and 60’s and everyone knows and loves them however that is partly because there wasn’t the vast back catalogue there is now to disappear into. There have been plenty of great pop songs that just disappeared over the years however had they been released back then no doubt they would be on the eternal playlist.

Help please.

I can't find this song or artist anywhere. Right this'll sound a bit dumb but bear with me. I'm sure it's something like Since You've Been Gone but not Rainbow. The guitar and rhythm is something like this.

(Guitar) Dur, dur. (Pause) Dur, dur "since youve been gone." Or something like that.

Yeah it did sound dumb but if you can put me out of my misery that'd be great.
Kelly Clarkson?
Nah it sounds 80s. I'll do a bit more from what I can recall from the end of the chorus

"Since youve been gone" dur, dur, ner ner ner ner.

That wasn't much more to go on but it sounds Foreigner-esque.

Fuck, it might not even be since youve been gone, if so, I'm bollocksed.
Not much to go on. Those "nur nurs" don't come over musically.
Hope this works.

Sorry did you mean the attachment/ download doesn't work or the bit I 'sang' didn't ring any bells?

I'm going to guess the latter!

No I got the sound file just fine. I thought it was going to be an actual snippet of the recording. It was a nice surprise to hear your actual voice though

Fucking hell, it sounds so familiar it's doing my head in now. I think you have the words wrong though.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Spot on. Thank you, that was really annoying me, been through hundreds of easy listening/smooth playlists in an attempt to find it. What a tune though.
