Reading the recent bio of Talk Talk's Mark Hollis these days (pretty meh and in need of an editor, but I digress), which has led me back to listening to Talk Talk. "Underrated" is such an abused term, usually meaning "you should like this as much as me!", but they really were an underappreciated gem, especially those last two records, where they tossed aside pop entirely for the foundations of post-rock. Serious music for turning out the lights and drinking/smoking/ingesting something to mellow out.
"A Perfect Silence" was an okay read but yep definitely agree regards an editor.
I love all Talk Talk's stuff. But those last two records definitely were a brave move away from their previous pop intentions. Just wish Mark's solo record wasn't so dour.

No fuchsias for you.

Glad it wasn't just me! I'm only about a third of the way in, but I can't say I have any real understanding of Hollis as a person. He was … a restless artist? Okay.

Agreed about his solo record. I played that a few days ago and I still think it takes sparse too far. But those last two Talk Talk records—who would think that they'd come from a band that had been working that mid-80s synthpop angle (and not to shit on those records at all)?

Soyou mean they had something better than that song Talk Talk? Hard to imagine
Originally they were called "The Reaction" and had a much more punky rougher feel. Then they went pop almost like Duran Duran then ended up kind of sophisticated avant garde. I expect you would prefer this.
