This set looks good as hell. I already own a lot of it, but not all of it. https://www.treblezine.com/gang-of-four ... a-matador/

I *think* I have a boot of the show and probably some of those demos on another boot. But if a person somehow still hasn't bought the first two Go4 albums, that would be a perfect lure.

Hello,

I'm so old I have Entertainment on vinyl already. I got it when it first came out - unbelievable sound at the time - harsh funk. You shouldn't need an excuse to buy some Gang of Four - but this is really attractive.

Perhaps a controversial opinion: I prefer the versions on the Peel Sessions disc and Return the Gift to those on Entertainment!. For a funk-influenced album, it's shocking how trebly it sounds.

Yeah, I agree with this. the songs definitely benefit from the fuller production on those alternate versions.

Not too controversial mate. Everyone I know who likes them feels the same. The Peel sessions has a much fuller sound.

I thought that Entertainment!'s status might make my view eyebrow-raising. Damn hard being a heretic these days.

Hello,

Return the Gift is outstanding - probably the best way to do a compilation. When you add in the remix album, it's next-level outstanding.

I watched that new Style Council documentary last night and other than a handful of songs, what a pile of pretentious shit they were. How Weller went from Town Called Malice to this vacuous, tinkling, watered down soul music in two years is one of the biggest mysteries of modern times.

It’s such a precipitous drop, too. But Weller never got a Mescaleros.

He briefly had the Paul Weller Movement before going solo. Awful name sounded like he'd eaten a bad curry.
