An excellent question.
In all honesty, despite my rep on here, I don’t care for that many American metal acts overall other than ones on the extreme fringe.

Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
I think I like 7-8 of the bands on that list to some degree, and obviously I get why they'd put Metallica at #1 but I think maybe only two would make my own list of top american metal bands (Slayer and Death, fwiw. Maybe Pantera if I've been hanging out with Wolter long enough).revbob wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 6:05pmOops sorry, got out of work early today.

I'll admit to not being familiar with this band Death. But seriously Limp Biscuit, Korn and some of those others WTF?Flex wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 6:10pmI think I like 7-8 of the bands on that list to some degree, and obviously I get why they'd put Metallica at #1 but I think maybe only two would make my own list of top american metal bands (Slayer and Death, fwiw. Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
Death was one of the first death metal bands (appropriately enough) so their inclusion is warranted. Maybe they're mostly going by album sales or something for a lot of those others, because the idea that Disturbed is the 20th best american metal band OF ALL TIME is insane.

No KISS?!?!
Seriously, while I can't claim to be familiar with all the bands there, but if your list includes Korn and Limp Bizkit, American metal is pretty damned thin.

they included those but not nine inch nails or van halen (just to list two very obvious potential picks off the top of my head). Unbelievably idiotic.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 6:18pmNo KISS?!?!

Saying GNR were the new Crue, but not having MC in the list is curious as fuck. Not that I like them, but every hesher in my school loved them in the their heyday.Flex wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 6:20pmthey included those but not nine inch nails or van halen (just to list two very obvious potential picks off the top of my head). Yeah, some of that list is just goofy. But I can get behind a few of those bands at least. I know Slipknot was sorta popular for awhile, but I don't think i've ever heard a song of theirs. Are they really that highly regarded?Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 6:24pmSaying GNR were the new Crue, but not having MC in the list is curious as fuck. Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I still don't think metalheads are legally allowed to acknowledge glam or hair metal.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 6:24pmSaying GNR were the new Crue, but not having MC in the list is curious as fuck. Not that I like them, but every hesher in my school loved them in the their heyday.

Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
Slipknot is fucking terrible but they sell gobs of records. Their last album in 2019 debuted at #1 on the billboard charts in the us and the albums charts in the uk. Just bafflingly popular for decades now. I hate them.
