My grand Floyd thesis is slowly shaping more and more into "the worst album of their classic years is their most famous one and their post-waters era has damaged their legacy by trying to recreate the mood of their worst album over and over but without Rogers' cynicism"
Not a horrible thesis, tbh.

I’d probably like them a lot more if they broke up after Animals.

I'm usually willing to rate The Final Cut decently. An album I don't necessarily enjoy but I respect in its sort of singular anger. All trash after that tho.

They made albums after that?

Another band that can sometimes suffer from their insufferable fanbase and some truly boring music but also capable of producing some really good songs.

Weird rule (well, observation): bands that habitually play long songs have insufferable fans (Swans definitely come to mind).

The Final Cut deserves a better fate. I don't listen to it very often, but when I do - I'm impressed by how much I like it. Biting lyrics that are still topical and some truly great guitar work from Gilmour.

Waters-era albums by order of quality/listenability:
1. Animals
2. Dark Side
3. Wish
4. Final Cut
5. The Wall

Pre-Waters era, same criteria:
1. Meddle
2. Saucerful
3. Atom Heart
4. Umma

I don't count the soundtracks

Piper is a different band

Waitaminnit …. (I'm subscribed to the Swans subreddit for news purposes and most of those people are SNEWSy fans, a combination of dream journal crap and lame meme attempts. Just fawning, embarrassing shit.)

Been a while since I’ve heard a lot of these, but this sounds about right.

I'm really not a huge fan, as I don't think I've really ever listened to all of their albums, but of the ones listed, here's how I would rate them.

1. The Wall
2. Dark Side Of The Moon
3. Animals
4. Wish You Were Here

From memory Animals is my favourite PF album. Not sure why I chose to listen to The Wall.
