And Your Bird Can Sing is a fantastic song.
In fact, the second side of Revolver is damned near perfect.

I was just thinking this as I'm listening to the Revolver box. It sounds fantastic.

"Got To Get You Into My Life" doesn't work for me at all. McCartney was trying to do Motown but doesn't pull it off. It's the sore thumb on the record for me. As much shit as I give "Eleanor Rigby"—mainly Heston's love of the kind of music nana would have approve of back: "Finally, those Beatles are putting their nastiness behind them!"—it's so much better realized than GtGYimL.WestwayKid wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 1:18pmAnd Your Bird Can Sing is a fantastic song.

I have mixed feelings about that song. I don't hate it, but agree he doesn't pull off the Motown sound.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 1:30pm"Got To Get You Into My Life" doesn't work for me at all. There is a version on the Super Deluxe that while rough - hints at something better. The horn line is replaced with a fuzz guitar which sounds far more Motown than what he eventually went with. It's got better backing vocals.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 1:30pm"Got To Get You Into My Life" doesn't work for me at all. McCartney was trying to do Motown but doesn't pull it off. Right! It's not an awful song, but how it ended up on the record missed the mark. And that version (the second, I think it's labelled) with the fuzzy guitar sounds so much of its time—it's pure mid-60s and would have fit well on the album.WestwayKid wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 1:48pmThere is a version on the Super Deluxe that while rough - hints at something better. These are fantastic and fascinating listening. Personally I am drooling in anticipation of Rubber Soul being given this treatment. As great as Revolver is, for me, Rubber Soul is the one that intrigues me the most. Of course, growing up in America we got the versions with songs removed and older songs removed from previous albums stuck on instead but still...WestwayKid wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 1:20pmI was just thinking this as I'm listening to the Revolver box. From what I see there's still a little hope

I also would love for a Rubber Soul remix with studio sessions a la Revolver. Something else on my wish list is the round up all the 67-69 tracks they missed and call it Hey Jude or something. I would really love to hear a properly remixed stereo version of It's All Too Much. Some guy on YT did a homemade version which blows away the released stereo version.

I've had The Back Seat of My Car stuck in my head all week — what a song.

Agreed and I would imagine that RS is next on the docket for Giles & Sam.weller259 wrote: ↑07 Apr 2023, 10:27pmThese are fantastic and fascinating listening. This seems entirely expected. Within the Beatles camp, sniping was acceptable, but it was only within. To everyone else, you haven't earned the right. It also suggests a basic love that persisted despite the wounded feelings.

I think it's something to do with coming up as kids, being kind of lousy (they were considered a pretty low tier Liverpool group for awhile), slogging it out, working an insane schedule in Hamburg, getting better, building a following and then just exploding in a way that really hadn't been seen before. The bond between John and Paul in particular, I don't think it could have been as bitter as it was if there wasn't love and betrayal behind it.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑20 Apr 2023, 7:32pmhttps://ultimateclassicrock.com/john-le ... m-keltner/
