He's also in it for the money. Guys like you or the Purple Chick people who put together Beatles collections are working out of love and obsession. You guys won the moral argument right off the bat.

It smacks of bullshit to me. They remixed the Yellow Submarine soundtrack and that sounds incredible. Then the Love album so why not do those early albums. Those albums are mixed badly when it comes to the stereo counterparts. Surely they have the original master tapes to work from.

Yeah, I don't understand any of that stuff at all—seriously, your work is voodoo to me—but I don't quite understand how software limitations prevent working with the original masters. I can understand how you work with serious constraints, but the Beatles camp wouldn't have that.

So is this what Mr Giles Martin can't do with hundreds of thousands of pounds of technology at Abbey Road and I can with my software that cost less than a hundred pounds? Call the taxman I say.

I'm almost done listening to Jon Savage's 1966, and there's a portion that relates the band recording SFF and When I'm 64. Savage says that the latter song had existed in one form or another since their Hamburg days (they'd play it to fuck with the audience). My reaction was that, Christ on a bike, Paul had been dreaming about being old even longer than I'd suspected.
