I've got time to kill and fancy giving a whole album a go. Someone suggest a good one that isn't PPM, Sgt Pepper or Abbey Road, cheers
Rubber Soul.
Ta. Good choice actually as I only know Norwegian Wood and Nowhere Man

Drive My Car - 6/10
Norwegian Wood - 9/10
You Won't See Me - 9/10 *
Nowhere Man - 10/10
Think For Yourself - 6/10
The Word - 8/10
Michelle - 9/10 *
What Goes On - 9/10 *
Girl - 8/10
I'm Looking Through You - 10/10 *
In My Life - 10/10 *
Wait - 6/10
If I Needed Someone - 7/10
Run For Your Life - 6/10

Well I'm not opening my mouth again without having more knowledge than I have. That was a treat of an album, no duds and plenty of new favourites. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!! It's long been my fave LP by the Fab Four. You should also give Revolver a spin.
I was really impressed with the album and annoyed at myself for not giving them the chance. Revolver for next time definitely.

A throwaway lyric...but still a really great sounding track!

Always reminds me of the James Bond theme, great track however.

Picked Abbey Road up today. Sounds pretty fucking great.
Ain't it? This new round of remasters has been nothing short of superb. I openly admit to having tin ears and can rarely detect stuff that amazes or appalls people, but the care and attention that Pepper, the White Album, and Abbey Road have received makes a person fall in love with the music all over again.

All brilliant but in reality we shouldn't expect anything less than excellent.

For me, it's more an uninformed expectation that there can't be much more room for the music to sound better. Those remasters from a decade ago sounded fantastic to me, so these new editions surprise by how much better yet they sound.

Better technology improves all the time. Much money time and effort and the best studio and production facilities. They simply have to be great. When I can improve sound with my meagre set up then something for The Beatles no less than excellent will do.

Ok it might be me being kind of fucked up so maybe Im not expressing myslef properly at this point but do some of these technological advances make some music sound better than the artist originally planned/imagined or ever heard themselves.

I suspect that's true inasmuch as they heard the mixes and all that based on the quality of the technology at the time, which was inferior to what we have now. Maybe weirdos like Brian Wilson could hear something absolutely pristine and distinct in his head, and was frustrated that the technology couldn't capture it, but the sound quality now is so much better than what those musicians and producers would have had when recording and mixing and evaluating the results.

Yes all this is true and of course you mentioned Brian Wilson who was a perfectionist and had a clear vision of the sound he wanted to create. There have been some brilliant producers down the years. Some like Bill Price who understood what the band needed and then guys like Trevor Horn who understood totally how to mix sound layer upon layer with great clarity. FGtH would've been crap without his genius.

Well, apart from a couple excellent songs, they were pretty crap.

The remasters from a decade ago were just that though, "remasters." They have been remixed this time, there is a big difference between the two.

Very true. The sound of the demos to the full overblown production / mixes is a huge shift.
