One of the most intense songs ever I've ever heard. Who says Weller was mellowing towards the end of the Jam...

Great track. My fave from that period is the lyric from ''Just Who Is the 5 O'Clock Hero?''.
Tremendous as well. That album was half-great.
Agree but the other was good just not as good.
Exactly mate.

I remember being slightly let down with The Gift after Sound Effects

Between Sound Affects and The Gift, 2Tone fell apart and it seemed that overnight thousands of mod / scooter gangs sprung up and Weller was their idol and The Jam their choir.
The Jam had always had a mod following but along with punks, skinheads, rude boys and everyone else, but not like this. I think that is partly why I stopped following them at that time.

I've yapped about them several times in the past, but, fucking hell, Cha Cha Cohen were something great but far too little heard.

Just heard this on shuffle and forgot what a great ass-kicking power pop song it is...

Simultaneously hypnotic and disrupting.

Somewhere between Ride and The Stone Roses. The Verve were a very different sounding band before the big hit.

Everyone knows them for 500 Miles but I thought this one was great, nearly punk in its drive and intensity but very melodic...
