Spotify just recommend this to me. Phenomenal stuff. Usually they recommend me dull indie crap, so this was a big, welcome surprise.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Just discovered an old French post-punk/coldwave band called Asylum Party. Take a bit of Wire's "The 15th" and Peter Hook's bass and go! It's fine but you see how things coalesced around certain sounds and inspirations.

Popped in my mind just now. The Frank & Walters' cover of Stephen Merritt's "Falling Out of Love." A deliciously cynical anti-romance song married to F&W's Smiths-like guitar pop.

I always put Big Country on when it's snowing. Great live version of my favourite song on that great debut album...

My first concert was Big Country at Hammersmith Odeon in 1986. Looking back, it's kind of astonishing my parents let me and my older sister, who was 14, get the bus and then tube to Hammersmith and then home again.

First saw them in June 1983 at The Hexagon, Reading. Great gig with Stuart singing the opening lyrics from The Jam's "Boy About Town" before "Fields of Fire".

My first concert was the Scorpions in May 1980 when I was 11. It was in Newcastle which is 8 miles away and I went by myself on the bus. My Mam still recoils when I remind her about it.
