In retrospect, this is a really significant song in the history of popular music, that crossing of underground electronic music to a pop sensibility, and all that followed.

In anticipation of the upcoming 50th anniversary Ziggy Stardust releases, Rhino records released a new David Bowie video for "Starman".

I really like The Orb and this track. You might be interested in this track.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 6:57pm

Those early efforts are amazing. Thanks for the pointer! My Hauntology lecture touches on stuff like that, namely the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. There's also this neat, short documentary on Delia Derbyshire:Marky Dread wrote: ↑29 Apr 2022, 6:01pmI really like The Orb and this track. Agreed, it's a pretty weak effort considering the originality & quality videos they released for the Mats box sets. I got the link to it from Rhino's website, so I assumed they created it, but now I'm not so sure. Kinda has an old 70's vibe to it though.Marky Dread wrote: ↑29 Apr 2022, 5:57pmIncredible, gee thanks Rhino Records but you really shouldn't have bothered. Oh wait you didnt.

I've watched this before but it's very cool stuff so inventive. Amazing to thing how those sounds were achieved back then.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑29 Apr 2022, 6:09pmAMarky Dread wrote: ↑29 Apr 2022, 6:01pmI really like The Orb and this track. What's cool is that they were creating distinctly avant garde stuff, what would normally be for the edgiest of artsy fartsies, but it was done via the BBC and for the masses. Normally, there's no way the average working-class guy isn't going to hear that stuff.Marky Dread wrote: ↑30 Apr 2022, 4:11amI've watched this before but it's very cool stuff so inventive. Yes you make a very good point here about the exclusivity of certain music. I never really gave any thought to that. Definitely brought that music to a wider audience.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑30 Apr 2022, 6:50amWhat's cool is that they were creating distinctly avant garde stuff, what would normally be for the edgiest of artsy fartsies, but it was done via the BBC and for the masses. He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a Olaf waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
Boogie with your children
In peace and love
Sing Olaf sing
To the Lord above
Souls that never wear
Are shoes that last forever
I'm yelling at my children
The straightjacket express
I need to find an atom of love
Forces have been looting
My humanity

Should be on the 50th anniversary release.

Re: The Great Thread of YouTube Magnificence!
I think it may be as a limited edition flex disc perhaps.
