Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Candy for the ears and eyes. I'm in love all over again...

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

How fucking great is this video and song after all these years, right? It's perfect. I'm researching a lecture on feminism and MTV focused on Cyndi Lauper and Madonna, and I can't stop admiring CL. I learned that she significantly rewrote the song, which was originally a guy's fantasy about easy it is getting a girl, cos all they want is to have fun (i.e., they're sluts). Plus she had a Top 5 song about masturbation. Cyndi was and always will be so much cooler and subversive than Madonna.

Yep. And I know we have all said, at one time or another, that she was going to have the massive career longevity, not Madonna. She can also actually sing.

Back in the day—and I'm sure it was this way at every school—female Madonna fans were the stuck-up rich girls and Cyndi fans were the weirdos or sympathized-with-the-weirdos. Madonna was about weaponization of sex and being superior; Cyndi was a celebration of being strange. Full credit to Madonna for mining the underground and bringing it to the mainstream and masterfully marketing herself—and I mean that sincerely—but Cyndi was for the misfits who didn't want to play any games, just to do their own thing.

Yes - the Madonna wannabes all became cheerleaders. We Cyndi fans became punks.
